We’re Hiring!

Come and work with the UK’s leading Spoken Word organisation.

We are currently hiring Spoken Word Artists for a new show made in collaboration with Half Moon Theatre. We are hiring an Assistant Director and an Assistant Producer to assist on Rallying Cry our flagship project for Apples and Snakes 35th Anniversary Celebrations. An immersive spoken word experience happening at Battersea Arts Centre in autumn 2018.

Apples and Snakes
With a core mission to champion poets and poetry, amplify unheard voices and challenge expectations of what poetry can be, Apples and Snakes is the leading organisation for spoken word poetry in the UK.

Apples and Snakes is dedicated to increasing the diversity of its workforce, reflecting the artists and communities that we work with. We strongly encourage and welcome applications from candidates from all backgrounds and individuals with disabilities.

We are looking for emerging practitioners to work on our Rallying Cry project. An assistant producer who is keen to develop their producing skills and an assistant director who is keen to develop their skills, in the spoken word sector. They will both work alongside Director, Rob Watt, Lisa Mead (Producer and Artistic Director of Apples and Snakes) and BAC producers to help deliver this exciting project.

Apples and Snakes and BAC both have a long history of activism and protest. Performance poetry grew from the grassroots, where people wanted their voices to be heard and to create change. In our current climate, the UK has become binary; the haves and have nots, the leavers and the remainers, the left and the right, the north and the south. We want to create spaces where we can both explore the nature of binary choice as well as delving into the crunchy grey areas in between.

We will work with prominent spoken word artists to create bespoke poetic theatrical experiences in various rooms across BAC; from its largest rooms to its most intimate corners. Alongside this we will work with 12 emerging poets to create works that will also be experienced by the audience who will be active participants rather than passive. The show will end with a gathering, a protest, a party of sorts. It will be the first production of its kind and will be the flagship project for Apples and Snakes 35th Anniversary Celebrations.
