Malaika Kegode

A poet of genuine roots, with a big heart, nice words and curly hair.

*

Malaika Kegode is a poet, performer and promoter from the South West, always looking for stories to tell. Her work focuses on the deeply personal and intricate beauty of the people around us.

She has worked closely with Apples and Snakes as a host of Spokes Amaze! Since 2014 and her own event Milk Poetry has been a well received addition to the Bristol poetry scene since 2015. As a workshop facilitator, she champions spoken word for expression to those who don't usually get the opportunity to speak out.

She has performed at Bristol Old Vic, Boomtown Festival, Tobacco Factory Theatre and Hammer & Tongue amongst others, and worked with organisations such as BBC 1Xtra and the Roundhouse.

Rebecca Tantony described her work as '... brave and honest and a thing of beauty to wrap your ears around. Unafraid of her shadows and in celebration of her golden parts, her words are to be heard.”
