Apples and Snakes X The Verb: 40 years and Counting
This special edition of The Verb, hosted by Ian McMillan, celebrates the contribution and impact of Black poets on shaping the UK spoken word poetry scene over the past 40 years. From poetry legends Benjamin Zephaniah, Malika Booker* and Birmingham’s Poet Laureate Casey Bailey.
Apples and Snakes started running gigs in 1982, in the back room of a pub, and over the past four decades have supported the development of many of the country’s leading poets, taking poetry to the people in parks, supermarkets, schools, libraries, venues, prisons and buses.
They continue to champion poets whose voices are ignored by the mainstream. Join us for what promises to be a very special recording as they celebrate their 40th anniversary.
