We believe that poetry and spoken word is for everyone.

We work to amplify unheard voices. We positively encourage artists and producers to push the boundaries of what poetry and spoken word can be.

Apples and Snakes was started by a group of poets in 1982 in a room above a pub. Over our 35 year history we’ve worked with Billy Bragg,  Jackie Kay, Lemn Sissay, Malika Booker, Charlie Dark, Polarbear, Kate Tempest, Benjamin Zephaniah, Michael Rosen and Caleb Femi, to name just a few.

Our Artist Development programmes include women’s poetry collectives in the North East, Writing Room for young writers in London and Book a Poet which sends poets to schools, galleries and festivals all over the country.
