Poetic Theatre Makers: Showcase will share exciting excerpts of new work from Birmingham REP and Apples and Snakes’ Poetic Theatre Makers development programme.
Over the past few months, seven writers and theatre makers from across the Midlands – Lanaire Aderemi, Casey Bailey, Jasmine Gardosi, Adaya Henry, Chris McLoughlin, Sujana Upadhyay and Peggy Warren, have been working intensively on the programme. They’ve been creating work that dismantles and reimagines the definitions of both spoken word poetry and theatre and now they’re ready to share their first drafts.
The artists have been working with acclaimed theatre makers Somalia Seaton (Fall Of The Kingdom, Rise Of The Footsoldier and House) and Chris Thorpe (Am I Dead Yet? and Confirmation) to dissect and strengthen their writing. They have also developed their skills through residencies in some of the country’s leading theatres, including The Royal Court, Nottingham Playhouse, Birmingham Hippodrome, Royal Shakespeare Company and Theatre Royal Stratford East.
These resulting excerpts will hopefully go on to be commissioned and developed into full-length shows so don’t miss this opportunity to see the work before anyone else.
