Serious poets don’t find time to write, they make time.

1. Describe yourself in 3 words…

Bearded bald brotha

2. What inspires you?

Most of my poems are crafted in the moments that I’m not eating (or thinking about eating) plantin. I’m inspired by the way life moves around me and I’m inspired to tell the truth and make it beautiful.

3. Tell us about your worst ever gig?

I once performed at a local council conference. There were three people there. I was one of them. I’m convinced the other two were only there for the sandwiches. My poetry did not woo them from the sandwich station.

4. What’s your number one poetry pet peeve?

The phrase ‘shards of glass’.

5. Whose words do you love at the moment?

I love the words ‘binary’, ‘duality’ and ‘chariot’.

6. What piece of advice would you give to your younger self?

Serious poets don’t find time to write, they make time.

7. What’s one of your favourite memories from the past year?’

My favourite memory of the last year has to be getting to Jamaica after no less than 6 cancellations due to Covid.

Reece appears in the final episodes of season one of the Apples and Snakes Podcast (episode 8 and 9). Host Yomi Sode talks about the importance of owning and telling our own stories with Kat Francois and Reece Williams.

They discuss bravery, worrying about how people will receive your authentic voice, how it is a fight for Black poets being able to tell their real truth and how they have had to unlearn the actions associated with silencing themselves.
