Give voice to rebellion and resistance with leading spoken word artist Roger Robinson.
Roger Robinson will explore the themes and issues of protest raised by Apples and Snakes’ Rallying Cry project. Spoken word and performance poetry began as a protest against the poetry establishment. Above pubs, in music venues and on street corners, spoken word artists fought to have their voices heard. This programme therefore celebrates poetry as protest, and gives participants the chance to explore their poetic voice in new ways and to develop their own rallying cry poems and performances about issues they are passionate about.
Roger Robinson is a writer and musician who has performed worldwide and is an experienced workshop leader and lecturer on poetry. He was chosen by Decibel as one of 50 writers who have influenced the black-British writing canon and is an alumni of The Complete Works. His workshops have been a part of a shortlist for the Gulbenkian Prize for Museums and Galleries and were also a part of the Webby Award winning Barbican’s Can I Have A Word.
