Join us for London’s biggest spoken word night!
Jawdance is an institution on the spoken word scene and a regular Rich Mix highlight. This year it celebrates its 10th anniversary with a programme of acclaimed feature acts and up-and-coming artists specially curated by regular host Yomi Ṣode, plus renowned open mic.
February’s Jawdance features one of the world’s leading storytellers. Jan Blake’s generous telling of stories from Africa, the Caribbean and Arabia has earned her an international reputation as a dynamic, witty and exciting performer.
We also welcome North London-based musician, Gecko. Gecko has performed his playful lyrics at Glastonbury, Bestival, Edinburgh Fringe, and for BBC Radio 1 and 6 Music, to name a few. His debut album Volcano was launched in 2017.
Plus we’ll have a feature set from Jeremiah ‘SugarJ’ Brown. Jeremiah is a Barbican Young Poet and former Roundhouse resident artist. His commissions include St Paul’s Cathedral, Barbican, Totally Thames and The Poetry Society. His debut show Likkle Rum with Grandma is going on tour in the UK this autumn.
How it works: Sign up on the night from 7-7.30pm to enter your name into the open mic draw. 10 slots, maximum 3 minutes each, selected at random. What have you got to lose?
Please note: The number of £2 tickets available for each Jawdance event is limited.
