Sky Arts has announced that the inaugural Sky Arts Awards will be taking place on 17th September at The Roundhouse.

Apples and Snakes on the judging panel for the Sky Arts Inaugural Prize

Apples and Snakes were asked to sit on the judging panel for the poetry category.

Our Artistic Director, Lisa Mead was on a panel of poets including Lemn Sissay, Asif Khan, Nikita Gill, Laura Hackett, Suli Breaks and Lisa Allardice to decide the 2024 nominees.

The nominees for 2024 poetry award are:

Momtaza Mehri for Bad Diaspora Poems 
Karen McCarthy Woolf and Nathalie Teitler for editing the Mapping the Future anthology
Jackie Kay for May Day

The ceremony will celebrate the diverse and vibrant landscape of British arts and culture, rewarding excellence across all of the arts, broadcast live on Sky Arts and Freeview.

The Sky Arts Awards is the only event in the world that recognises the full spectrum of artistic genres, including classical music, comedy, dance, film, literature, poetry, opera, popular music, television, theatre, and visual art.

Sky Arts Manifesto by Joe lycett

Following the 2024 Sky Arts Awards comedian Joe Lycett put together a manifesto for the arts. This lists a number of ideas that the government can undertake now that will have huge beneficial outcomes for the UK Arts industry. Whilst the need for proper arts funding continues the manifesto has been put together to exclude the need of extra spending.
