Telling Tales is a free six-week creative programme for 7-11 year olds. Participants get to work with an experienced writer to create stories and poems! At the end of the six weeks the young people present a sharing for family and friends and are certified with a Discover Arts Award. They are provided with a Discover Arts Award booklet and arts and crafts to assist them throughout the programme.
Our current Telling Tales facilitators are trained in delivering Arts Award Discover & Explore. Since 2020 our regular Telling Tales facilitators are poets and artists Paul Lyalls, Erin Bolens and Breis.
As part of SPINE Festival Lite 2022, we delivered Telling Tales in 16 London boroughs and worked with an incredible team of poets and storytellers: Dan Simpson, Paul Lyalls, Breis, Yara Rodrigues Fowler, Patrick Evans, Sally Pomme Clayton, Ehireme Omoaka, Malakaï Sargeant, Desree Gumbs-Carty, Amari Harris, Francesca Beard, Arji Manuelpillai, Lester Gomez, Zohab Khan, Christy Ku and Laurie Bolger. SPINE Festival Lite will return in 2024.
Telling Tales runs annually and rotates in boroughs Brent, Ealing, Hammersmith and Fulham, Kensington & Chelsea and Westminster. The programme is generously supported by John Lyons Charity.
