Apples and Snakes, in partnership with Create to Transform Dialogue Spaces, are hosting a series of empowering, no-nonsense conversations as part of our commitment to evolve the poetry in performance and spoken word scene. 

Our series of fortnightly online Gatherings will shine a spotlight on some of the most pressing issues in the UK poetry and literature sector during this global pandemic.

Join for pragmatic, solution-focused celebrations with creative prompts and special guests which we hope will elevate the spoken word. 

All Gatherings welcome all and are free to attend for spoken word artists, poets, writers and those interested in the poetry voice in performance as a vocation.

Women in Spoken Word and Performance Poetry
April 12 | 6.30pm – 8pm
To mark the end of International Women’s Month, our first Gathering will discuss the woman’s voice in the performance poetry and literary world. What does it sound like? What is the experience like?

Guests include: Khadijah Ibrahiim, Nicole May, Kate Fox, Shareefa Energy, Joelle Taylor and Jean Binta Breeze.

Page vs Stage: The Final Conversation
April 26 | 6.30pm – 8.30pm
The page versus stage debate is dead. Is it time for the literary world to let it go?

Ask Apples is an opportunity for poets, established and emerging, to meet members of the Apples and Snakes team in an informal setting to discuss our new direction Apples.


The Gathering Spaces will be facilitated by Zena Edwards, Poet and Consulting Artist Associate for Apples and Snakes.
